We focus on categories where microbial innovations and microbiome-related products will disrupt and capture global market share in the coming years (e.g. oral care, skin care, infant health, etc.). We have built a strong foundation with breakthrough research and strong intellectual property, and believe there is a substantial opportunity to emerge as an innovative product line, backed by the most rigorous science.

You

Data drives you to achieve, mission drives you to excel, and the microbiome is either something you’re deeply passionate about already or passionate about diving in and learning more. In your current role, you are immersed in analytical work in statistics and work eloquently with large data sets. You are capable of designing and executing both detailed and open-ended analysis plans in a fast-paced environment, such as a startup undergoing hyper-growth. Teachers and mentors would describe you as a driven, focused, and analytical mind who grasps concepts quickly, engages with your subject, and, above all else, consistently delivers impeccable work using large data sets (such as multi-omics!). You conduct the type of work that drives forward innovation and you effectively collaborate with a highly intellectual, diverse team containing individuals spanning from basic science experience to clinical trial execution.

You value time above all else, and if it was unlimited, you would spend most of it acquiring more knowledge or “nerding out.” Importantly, you respect deadlines, starting on time and finishing on time. In conversation, you’re quick on your feet, employ an impressive vocabulary, and rarely fumble for words. You hold yourself and colleagues accountable to deliverables, work fast, and loathe stagnancy and procrastination. You have a proven track record in an R&D or clinical analysis team to use cutting-edge bioinformatic techniques to interrogate data-driven, clinical analyses of various microbiological (e.g. DNA sequencing output) and clinical (e.g. human health) data.

As Seed’s early-phase discovery pipelines span all facets of human and planetary health, you’ll dive deep into identifying the application of microbes on host health and either already exhibit – or are well on your way to gaining – a mastery of many disciplines within microbiology. Overall, you will help Seed remain a data-driven culture which reflects the intentionality of our brand and the human-centric ethos of our company.

You can rapidly internalize and become proficient in using our current R&D infrastructure to run bioinformatics analysis and discovery, both internally and using cloud resources. You obsess over data, insights, new trends, technologies and the kind of gut instincts that come from experience and deep knowledge of our brand. You are discerning about your analytical experiments and how to roll out implementations.

Projects under your scope will proceed quickly across many different dimensions – you are comfortable independently organizing, logging, and communicating your thoughts and processes. You utilize a willingness and ability to speak up, think critically, and explain the complexity of bioinformatics to people at all levels of mastery.

You

We’re big on words. Words empower and steward the integrous translation of science that forms the foundation of our brand.

Writer and storyteller at heart, you create magic in the permutation of 26 letters, a handful of punctuation, and occasional, cleverly-placed emojis. You think in long form and short form and rap verses and poetry and everything in between and understand it’s about speaking to people in the way they want to be spoken to. You can get to the heart of a message in the fewest number of characters and thrive in the crafting of phrases that catalyze action. Words are powerful; you know exactly when and how to be subversive and provocative versus nurturing and expansive. You thrive in memes, haikus, hashtags, puns, metaphors, and analogies—word play is your superpower. When we say TED meets Vox meets The Hustle meets Carl Sagan meets VICE, you know what we mean.

And you are curious. Pushing boundaries and buttons is your thing and you demand a new way to counterprogram against the noise (especially when it comes to science, health, and wellness). You could wake up every day with the mission to make science accessible and cool (while also fully understanding the importance of integrity and the nuance of precision). You are inspired to crack empowerment through education and turn clickbait into meaning. • Synthesis of disparate ideas to create analogies, metaphors, and other narrative devices to communicate science and inspire a community
  • You noticed the misused homophone in this job description and it bothered you deeply

You have told a lot of stories, written a lot of taglines, tweets, captions, and subject lines, and you’re ready for something that satisfies and expands and peeks your intellect, your soul, and of course, your microbiome.

The blank page does not scare you. It inspires you. A roadblock or is a challenge waiting to be solved. You look for the doors no one else can see. You know the steps needed to bring ideas to life, pulling from your diverse range of experience in strategy, creative, and production, and you know how to scale ideas from 10⁹ down to 10⁻⁹ (you can be big vision one minute and the next double-click into the granular details to make it come alive).

Curious, inquisitive, and obsessed with deep research— nerding out on the depths of new topics that you are not yet familiar with, inspires your best ideas.
  • You have a strong background in, interest, and experience in the multicultural marketplace. You’re on the pulse of multiple cultures, immersed in diverse communities and are able to identify real-time cultural trends, behaviors and passions across the landscape. You also know when you don’t know and seek other perspectives to round out your own.
  • You can synthesize disparate ideas to create analogies, metaphors, and other narrative devices to communicate science and inspire a community.
  • Pragmatic. While you dream in outer space (or in the micro-verse) you are able to identify the steps needed to bring your ideas to life through production realities. You are comfortable with leading these steps alongside the team to ensure your ideas come to fruition.
  • Passionate about developing never-been-done-before, headline capturing, award-winning, ming-gasmic concepts.
  • You understand the value of insights and you can leverage these insights to create a unique story across any format.

What you’ll do:

  • Research and define.
    • Utilize internal Seed qualitative and quantitative data, as well as external observations and desktop research to create unconventional campaign narratives and strategies.
    • Keep a pulse on the external world (social issues, climate change, politics, public health, supply chain, etc.) that may influence and inform strategic and creative decisions.
    • Work to deeply understand the science of the microbial world for Seed, SeedLabs and our therapeutics work to identify translational opportunities.
    • Rabbit hole and get lost in the depths of the microbial world to emerge with new ideas and ways to inspire our community.
  • Develop creative strategy.
    • Be the architect of larger creative concepts and narratives that translate microbial science to both our member and non-member communities across all channels (digital and IRL).
    • Collaborate with Marketing and Growth teams on strategic thinking for both brand and product campaigns.
  • Creative narrative development.
    • Develop campaign concepts and overall messaging that pushes the boundaries of the overall Seed ethos.
    • Write and present creative concept briefs that inspire design and experience, while also connecting to overall strategic business goals.
  • Execute.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with many departments to ensure work is done in a timely manner and deadlines are met.
  • You will help us find an awesome junior copywriter to support the execution of your ideas.
  • Learn and iterate.
  • Work closely with VP of Brand + Marketing and Director of Marketing Ops to develop intentional post-mortems of creative campaigns, learnings, and ideas for future iterations.
  • Be a safeguard for projects that may be spiraling or moving in a direction that feels too esoteric. Spot inefficiencies, blockers, and challenges and suggest ways to overcome them with the wider creative team.

You are an experienced scientist who understands the tremendous potential of how to modify human microbiomes to improve health. You have a deep knowledge in at least one area of microbiome science, ideally in skin health and/or host-microbiome interactions, and a hunger to learn more. You are passionate about cutting-edge science and are skilled at taking a high level scientific milestone and figuring out, through deep thinking and engagement with internal and external experts, how to identify critically important mechanisms and execute the right data and wet lab experiments to validate (and reject) hypotheses. Importantly, you have detailed hands-on expertise in data or experimentation that enables you to select the most promising and productive areas for exploration. We’d love to see some experience in data science and/or immunology along with your microbiome expertise, but it’s not required.

You are experienced in interacting with external collaborators, including academics and CROs, to identify the best path to advance research quickly. You have meticulous, borderline obsessive, attention to detail and understand how hundreds of small moving parts contribute to the overall success of a project. You are a person who enjoys working with a team of passionate, highly skilled scientists to advance high risk, high reward science.

Ideally, you have direct experience managing research projects as part of a small core team with aggressive timelines within the life sciences industry or academia (but we are not myopic and believe if the first paragraph sings to you, you wouldn’t hesitate to apply). You are a strong communicator, able to pivot quickly towards new directions, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and lead the Discovery research strategy in skin health, in close collaboration with the VP, Discovery and CSO
  • Lead exploration, ideation, and experimentation to quickly validate or reject key hypotheses around mechanisms for how the microbiome impacts/improves skin health
  • Manage your program from ideation to execution including hypothesis identification, scoping out deliverables, requirements gathering, development of scientific work plans, and regular tracking of progress
  • Manage internal and external resources needed to execute on your vision, including but not  limited to identifying CROs, external academic collaborators, and internal scientists
  • Work directly with the leadership team to define the scope of work and plan for each project
  • Proactively tackle potential questions, delays or conflicts and communicate status updates to the VP of Discovery, CSO, and CEOs

Background

  • PhD, ideally 2+ years postdoctoral or industry experience in microbiome science, host/microbe interaction, skin health/microbiome, oral health/microbiome, and/or immunology
  • Experience originating and managing research projects, either in academia or industry

Healthcare is a growing ecosystem of practitioners, coaches, clinics, self-organized patient communities, AI chatbots, and so much more.  Inherent in this ecosystem are new symbioses, which you will create using Seed’s expertise in microbiome science.  As an early member of Seed’s healthcare business unit, you will create the playbook for how Seed interacts in this ecosystem and builds a community of its own.

At Seed, you’ll start with three primary goals:

  1. Forge relationships with KOLs (existing and upcoming) in healthcare—those championing the advancement of microbiome education and novel applications of probiotics.

  2. Nurture an inbound community of healthcare practitioners who seek to partner with Seed to educate their patients or procure Seed products for resale.

  3. Optimize the internal processes and resources we have for scaling relationships, inquiries, and a CRM that doubles every month.

Since you’ll be interacting with practitioners every day, you’ll have a finesse to handling health questions about patient conditions, awareness of regulations in communicating about supplements and medical foods, and a honed recognition of the opportunities whereby Seed can rise above the noise in the industry with credible education and clarity.  Since you’ll also be managing direct revenue generation from these relationships, you’ll identify ways to increase sales per practitioner, improve retention per patient, and launch programs of mutual value for Seed and our partners.  These solutions will evolve over time as we scale, so you will identify the upgrades we should be planning, months in advance.

Most importantly, you’ll raise the bar for what practitioners should expect from companies and products to earn their trust and recommendation.

Who you are:

  • 5+ years of related business development or marketing experience
  • 5+ years interfacing with healthcare practitioners (HCP), translating products and services across varied domains of expertise and fields of medicine
  • Previous experience in consumer health or healthcare
  • Previous experience brand-side
  • Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills
  • Flawless attention to detail in planning, executing and reporting on results of all assigned tasks
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance in probiotics and licensed healthcare practices
  • Literacy in health and science

You

We don’t have to tell you that the healthcare landscape is changing. You’re in it. Telemedicine, direct-to-consumer pharmacies, high-tech clinics, wearables, public health AI, health coach certifications, etc. are creating a new healthcare ecosystem, and you are tracking these evolutions.

At Seed, you’ll launch and grow a new business unit that will affect how licensed practitioners and their clients/patients access and understand the microbiome and probiotics. Most companies think of this influential community as a B2B sales channel, but we believe there’s a more empowering approach that solves rampant misinformation in probiotics and elevates this prosumer experience in a noisy (and often archaic) space. You’ll own the strategy, P+L, tech and product briefing, trade marketing and communications, community education and engagement, and the two-sided experience for both practitioners and those they serve. To do this, you’ll work cross-functionally with Care / SciCare, Operations, Finance, Marketing, SciComms, and R+D.

You’ll connect dots across the licensed practitioner landscape (e.g. functional medicine doctors, acupuncturists, gastroenterologists, dietitians, clinics, telepharmacists). You’ll understand their needs, how they are currently being and not being served by companies, the best ways to reach them, how we can add value to their work, how we can help them serve and educate their clients and patients, how we should gather them in real life and digitally, and how we can be an ongoing resource for them.

You’ll operationalize all aspects of this unit and forge the strategic partnerships required to scale and diversify this community as we launch new products in verticals and domains with unique practitioner expertise. You’ll own the end to end user journey and two-sided product for practitioners and their patients. You’ll double quadruple the size of our existing CRM, prove ROI on multiple channels, weigh in on the user journey experience of practitioners and their clients, and build an exceptional team as we grow.

Most importantly, you’ll raise the bar for what practitioners should expect from companies and products to earn their trust and recommendation.

Who you are:

  • 7+ years of related business development, marketing, or operations experience
  • Previous experience in consumer health, healthcare, and/or the prosumer space
  • Previous experience interfacing with healthcare practitioners (HCP), translating products and services across varied domains of expertise and fields of medicine
  • Previous experience brand-side
  • Experience leading large, complex, and first-of-their-kind projects end to end, from strategy to launch to scale
  • Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills
  • Flawless attention to detail in planning and execution of all assigned tasks
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance in probiotics and licensed healthcare practices
  • Literacy in health and science

You

You are the human to launch and manage the impact of a pivotal innovation in women’s health. Your experience successfully bringing products to market is matched by your passion to apply your years of experience to make a meaningful impact. Your incessant drive to align the value of a product with the truths of the humans it is intended for, has created product-market fit at scale…..more than once.

Your experience in women’s health and knowledge of the history, the systemic issues, the sensitivities, the products, the lack of innovation, and the white space is unparalleled. Marketing is an expression of your activism—a way to empower agency and differentiate a product when earned. You have been following and/or curious about the vaginal microbiome and you have well-informed skepticism for much of what has been commercialized to date. You’ve been waiting for the evidence to catch up to the evangelism.

Your strangely extraordinary ways of articulating the benefits of a product to the right humans at the right moment in the right place, are inspiring. Your knowledge of the commercialization landscape informs your 720o strategies, which encompass channel, pricing, geography and various levers and axes unique to how you think about product marketing.

You have a particularly unique skill set translating scientific inputs and findings to claims that are compliant, compelling and brand-aligned. And you understand how to collaborate with R+D to generate data that is useful for HCPs and end-users alike.

Lastly, your uncanny project management skills were well-honed in ownership-focused cultures, where both the strategy and cross-functional touchpoint-by-touchpoint execution were table stakes.

And most importantly, you deeply (in your core and your microbiome), give a sh*t.1

Like in biology, each role and its function is key to the productivity, sustainability, and resilience of our ecosystem.

Us

Seed Health is a microbiome science company pioneering innovations in probiotics and living medicines to impact human and planetary health. Our scientific board comprises leading scientists, researchers, and clinicians across the fields of microbiology, immunology, bioinformatics, dermatology, oral health, vaginal health, gastroenterology, mental health, pediatrics, and nutrition.

Consumer innovations are commercialized under Seed® with a mission to bring much-needed precision, efficacy, education and perspective-shifting science communication to the global category of probiotics. Our efforts to set a new standard in probiotics, microbial innovation and translational communication have earned various accolades, including Fast Company's World Changing Ideas in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, and TIME's Best Inventions 2018.

In less than 4 years in DTC, we’ve built a flagship probiotic that rivals the legacy top two omni-channel brands in all of probiotics globally. We have also built an extraordinary pipeline across multiple categories and needs with breakthrough microbiome science. And now we need the human who is going to thoughtfully architect our member experience and product roadmap as we scale.

A glimpse into how we define product:

There is a reason product is revered in Silicon Valley.

It is, whether digital or physical, the artifact of an experience.

Much like how microbes are the invisible interface between humans and the environment, product, when done well, is invisible, but critical. It defines our relationship to the experience of everything we touch, use, eat, purchase from. Within it, we imbue our wants and needs, both conscious and unconscious. It is intuitive, it optimizes, inspires, works, and communicates the value system, logic and vision of what the humans designing it want to achieve.

As a first principles, digitally-native brand dealing directly with the complexity of human health, and the emotional experience of how we choose products and services that we hope can help us and those we care for, how can product help us uphold our deep beliefs in meeting people where they are, empowering through education and engendering accountability through well-placed friction?

Product is not a set of widgets or quickly deployed survey tools, but the expression of everything we have built and want to do differently. If we aspire to set new standards with our product, our digital product is no exception. Conversely, we must also conceptualize and develop our physical products, considering the digital.

With the appropriate process and humans, this does not mean that this ethos is the enemy of time and experimentation. Instead, it’s the careful, methodical, and intentional up-front work of cross-functional symbiosis to ensure we are living our values through what we put out in the world. And that we recognize for the human interacting with us, that IRL and URL are one and the same. Each informs the other, and are inextricably linked. Everything is, indeed, connected.

You

You are the architect of our member experience—how we inspire and sustain our community. As a health and science company, this means not only expanding our business, but increasing the impact we can make in people’s lives. To do this, you have a member-first (some would say obsessive) ethos that relies as much on data as it does on working to deeply understand the science behind what we do and the individual experiences of our members.

You look at member personas and segmentation as the opportunity to design lifecycle and journey maps that reflect how much we #giveashit. You work closely with insights to develop learning roadmaps and member research to inform….well, everything. You identify opportunities for us to show up with meaningful education and information at a moment in someone’s journey to empower, while strengthening our relationship with them. You take ease of access seriously and design intuitive experiences that don’t burden, but rather add value and encourage exploration and curiosity. You will define what personalization means for us—and how we live up to it.

You imagine and reimagine the different digital and physical touch points and experiences that enable us to meet our members where they are (SMS, referral and loyalty learning programs, onboarding, sampling, grassroots 1:1 outreach campaigns, account dashboard evolution, transactional CRM, payment processing, winback flows and cancellation journey, bundles and purchasing options, etc.) and collaborate cross-functionally in order to bring invention and intentionality to this process.

You know the nuts and bolts better than anyone and have successfully scaled subscription memberships from 100MM to 250MM+. You are now looking to apply those skills to a brand that thinks differently and cares deeply about the health and education of its community.

You are a cross-functional, project-managing savant, working across engineering, insights, data science, product, brand, marketing, growth, customer care, R+D, product development and operations to implement your integrated initiatives. This includes, but is no way limited to thoughtfully and effectively leading and rallying a team, conceptualization, cross-functional alignment, planning resources, managing deadlines and objectives, delivering analysis and recommendations, keeping KPIs top of mind and the internal communication needed to nail every pixel and character.

You are excited by the idea that the companion digital experience to a physical product IS the/a product itself and that when combined and done well, you elicit the 1+1=3 effect.

You own the product experiences that increase convenience, ease, and value throughout the member journey to facilitate member retention.

You own the reporting—weekly, monthly, and quarterly with Growth to ensure impact can inspire, KPIs are being met, and the greater business goals are being met.

You understand the critical importance of brand—you play the long game and do not trade short-term tactics for dilution of what we’ve built, which is predicated on science, precision, and education.

You have 8+ years of owning the end-to-end member experience—ideally, but not necessarily, in health, well-being, OTC, telemed, healthcare, or a health-related arena. Knowledge of US regulatory and FTC compliance, a plus.

Your analytical skills with quantitative and qualitative data (and your input on what data to even collect first) allow you to connect dots others wouldn’t and then devise initiatives from those insights that are needle-moving.

You have a sense of good content, creative and storytelling—you can tell when something feels “off” in an email and wouldn’t land well in that person’s inbox on that particular day. This doesn’t mean a great brand can’t utilize the most tried and true direct response best practices, but it does mean that how they are delivered—the language, the creative, the channel, the timing—can be done in a way that feels right.

You are always learning. New tools, technologies, trends and case studies in your domains of expertise, of course. And you are also always learning from our team—about our products and the science. The more deeply you understand what we do, who we are and the greater context of our field, the more meaningful and intentional your work will be.

You are agile and fast. For you, thoughtfulness and intentionality are not the enemy of experimentation and A/B testing.

You have a track record of success and when we check your references, they will say, “I don’t know if you can get [insert your name here], but if you can, it will be one of the most pivotal hires you ever make.”

We’re a human brand serving humans who ask us about health, science, probiotics, acclimation and anything one can Google. Some are inquisitive and skeptical, others praise us for our knowledge and helpfulness. As a company obsessed with scientific integrity, the cultivation of community, and a deep commitment to education, you are a vital part of this. You are an integral steward of Seed, the communication of science and our values, and a keystone of our brand experience. You are the catalyst for word-of-mouth and the first impression for incoming customers and curious question-askers who are excited about what we do and how we do it. People you interact with will walk away saying ‘whoa, I have never had an experience that felt so unique, intelligent and thoughtful’.

This goes beyond a world-class customer experience—this is about human relationships grounded in trust, scientific accessibility, and believing in knowledge as agency. Every day, we deal with human health and all of the nuance, emotion, and crucial empathy that’s required of it. This is about how you guide someone’s health journey and experience through the lens of science, and how you translate and communicate in a way that’s simultaneously rigorous, accessible, and kind.

You are the face of our SciCare team and the first point of contact for our customers when they seek guidance for their detailed product, science, and health questions. You are excited to care for their end-to-end experience, even when that means scouring through pubmed to address the most nuanced of questions. You constantly ask how else you can serve with Seed’s ethos of citizen science, curiosity, and learning injected into every email you write or scientific translation you create. You have eight ideas about how to offer unexpected moments of inspiration when a customer first mentions they’re interested in the microbiome or inquires about probiotics for their dog; as well as how we can do that consistently and proactively.

You are deeply curious about biology, bacteria, nutrition, the microbiome and their role in human and ecological health. When someone hears about a new diet or detox, you’re the one they text for the facts. PubMed is in your Instagram feed, Nature Medicine is in your bookmarks bar, and you’re excited to finally bridge the n of 100 (what science knows) with the n of 1 (how a human feels). This means everything from resolving daily customer service inquiries to communicating science to the public—in response to questions we receive, but also finding ways to proactively offer information and education in new and unique ways that may deepen our community’s experience of Seed.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as the first (and main) point of contact for the many scientific, product, and health related inquiries that our external ecosystem sends our way, crafting detailed responses while maintaining an approachable and empathetic tone.
  • Play an active role in defining and enforcing the signature SciCare experience by delivering galaxy-class customer service through product education and science communication.
  • Build relationships with our members through proactive outreach and follow-ups—providing exceptional support or igniting curiosity along the way.

  • Prior experience in either customer service, health care, or a service-related field.
  • You have a fundamental drive to deliver best in class service, with a true passion for making science accessible to all humans.
  • A ruthless prioritizer with high emotional intelligence. You are deeply thorough and thoughtful.
  • Excellent written, communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized, proactive, patient, solutions-driven, quick on your feet, and not afraid to roll up your sleeves.
  • Ability to position the customer at the center of every discussion or decision.

We have built a strong foundation with breakthrough research and strong intellectual property, and believe there is a substantial opportunity to emerge as an innovative product line, backed by the most rigorous science.

You

We are looking for someone who loves operations and understands how crucial the function is to the success of the business. There are over 50 moving parts in our supply chain ranging from fermentation facilities to packaging to fulfillment, and foresight is your most valuable asset. You understand that timelines are sacred, and one small break in the supply chain can break the business. Your inventory management display and tracking system looks like a work of art, with both form and function. You can anticipate a delay and flag it, extract what you need from the team, and solve it with urgency and ease. You think in systems, and sleep easy at night knowing everything has been considered, and there are no known unknowns.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage flow of products ensuring the right amount of stock is available to meet demand.
  • Generate and maintain short and long-term rolling supply plans based on the demand forecast, with the ability to identify capacity constraints and agree actions to address the issue.
  • Place purchase orders with suppliers and track open purchase orders to ensure production timelines are adhered to by suppliers.
  • Communicate with external partners and suppliers to produce necessary services, ingredients, and packaging through the supply chain.
  • Build and manage dynamic, automated inventory and material management systems.
  • Analyze inventory, identifying trends and anomalies to ensure risks to the supply network are identified as early as possible.
  • Perform root analysis of any issues in accordance with supply.
  • Contingency planning for supply interruptions
  • Identify and present opportunities to improve the end to end supply chain and drive the implementation of initiatives.

Who you are:

  • You have 2-4 years of experience in supply chain and operations functions with responsibilities in forecasting, analysis, and reporting, ideally in a technology, consumer health or DTC E-commerce company
  • You love spreadsheets and statistical analysis
  • Advanced problem-solving capability, with a focus on continuous improvement and the ability to question process and come up with ideas to mitigate supply risks
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Dynamic, proactive personality that’s eager to jump into new challenges
  • ERP and system knowledge
